ClayLinks, the forever handprint kit, is a convenient way to make a lasting keepsake print of a loved one’s hand or foot. Learn more about ClayLinks Kits in our About ClayLinks Kits section.
Each ClayLinks Kit includes one patty of specially-formulated modeling compound in Soft White clay. You may need to use more than one clay patty to make your print. Visit our Getting Started page to determine how many kits to order.
Your ClayLinks Kit includes:
- One clay patty made from our proprietary soft white modeling compound.
- A 6″ x 9″ plastic storage bag that can be used as a take-home container for the finished print.
- An instructional insert, with tips on print-making, baking and decorating, as well as customer service contact information.
Please note: All ClayLinks patties must be kneaded before making the print because it is important to evenly distribute the compounds in the clay. This activates strong bonds when baked and ensures the long life of the print. Use our Patty Pad and Molds to get a perfectly shaped patty.

Please knead our ClayLinks Clay and then form it into a patty before making a print.
Lay the Patty Pad flat on a clipboard, counter top or table and you’ll have the perfect surface for print-making. Knead the clay, place it between the covers of the Patty Pad and press. Wipe clean and use again.
Use the Circle Molds to make your patties into perfect shapes. Use the Small Clear Mold (2.75″) for use with 1/2 a clay patty for preemies or very small babies. Use the Maroon Circle Mold (4″) with one clay patty for most babies. Use the Large Green Circle Mold (5.5″) with two patties for most children.
For larger prints, try our Oval Molds.
These circle molds may also be used with our Bulk Option for our Unbreakable Bond Self-Curing Molding Putty. However, prints made with our circle molds are not compatible with the Unbreakable Bond Gold Tins. Instead, ask about our Bulk Option Presentation Boxes.

Use the included Heart Mold to shape our modeling compound into a perfect heart. ClayLinks prints in the shape of a heart symbolize the bonds between loved ones. Use the Maroon Heart Mold (4 3/8″ wide by 3 3/8″ tall) with one clay patty for small prints or the Large Green Heart Mold (6″ wide by 5″ tall) with two clay patties for larger prints.

From our talks with you, we know baking is not always easily accomplished at your workplaces. We’ve developed a solution with our Take & Bake Container! This way, you can easily have a family take home an unbaked ClayLinks Print. This allows families to decorate their print with other family members at home and bake when the time is right. To help even more, we’ve created a printable handout for families that explains why you are sending their ClayLinks print home unbaked and undecorated. It walks families through our recommendations for how to make the at-home part of the process a healing ceremony.
To use Take & Bake Containers:
- Place an unbaked ClayLinks print in the container.
- Cover the print with the lid for safe transport home with your clients.
- The ClayLinks print can be baked in the very same container!
- Baking directions are conveniently affixed to each cover.
These containers work with most prints made with our Maroon & Large Green Circle or Maroon Heart Molds. For larger prints, try our Large Take & Bake Containers.

Use Heart Charms to decorate and add color to your ClayLinks prints. Each Heart Charm is handmade by our staff at World by the Tail, Inc.’s Clay Studio, so we know they will withstand the oven temperatures required for baking.

Sometimes with premature births and other special cases, it is not possible to get a deep or detailed impression of a hand or foot in clay. During situations like these, our Ink Pads for Preemie Prints can be used with our ClayLinks Clay to get a defined impression.
We’ve selected this particular ink because it is non-toxic and child-safe. It is also acid-free and washes off skin well (please note some colors may require more than one washing). In our experiments, the ink works well with our particular formula of clay and is even smudge-proof and water-resistant after it has dried completely and is baked.
This ink is available in black, pink, and blue.
Our Ultra Washable Ink Pads conform to ASTM D4236 standards for testing of art materials and are:
- Child Safe and Non-Toxic
- Suitable for low temperature baking
- Permanent on prints (after heat set) but washes off skin
Please note some colors require more than one washing. All inks are likely to fade with time. Please keep finished prints away from direct sunlight.

It’s easy to finish your ClayLinks prints with a decorative ribbon. Simply make two holes near the top, bake, then thread the ribbon through. You can either tie it in a bow or loop it so it hangs like an ornament. For your convenience, each pack of ribbons includes 12 pre-cut ribbons of the perfect length (18″).
Decorative Ribbon is available in the following varieties: Teal Satin Ribbon, Purple Satin Ribbon, Burgundy Satin Ribbon, and our original “Forever L♥ved” Gold Ribbon.

Once dry, the colors are smudge-proof and won’t fade, bleed, or change tone over time like ink from other types of permanent markers. These Artist Markers are manufactured by Faber-Castell Inc. and should be stored horizontally. Follow the included instructions to handwrite names, birth dates, death dates and more onto your ClayLinks print.
